Custard Powder Halwa
I love jelly type halwas, my favourite one is a fruit halwa which is available in our near by bakeries. It is jelly like, full of fruit and so yummy. Making them at home can be quite tricky but not all halwas. I have already shared an easy cornflour halwa in this blog. This is another addition to my easy halwa recipes..
Ingredients for Custard Powder Halwa Recipe
- Custard Powder - 1 cup ( I used vanilla flavored)
- Sugar - 3 cups
- Water - 4 cup
- Cashew nuts - 15 chopped finely
- Ghee - 3 tbsp
Pin
This halwa is so simple, just few ingredients thrown together in a thick bottom kadai. That's is..The one thing which you have to do is keep on mixing till it gets thick. It wont take long, just 15 mins is good to make a batch of these.

This halwa don't need that much ghee as well. So it is quite healthy and great for kids..
How to Make Custard Powder Halwa Recipe
- Take a heavy bottom pan, add in custard powder, sugar and water, Mix well so now lumps are formed..
- Now put this on high heat and keep whisking till it is thick, glossy and jelly like.
- Now use a spoon to mix and put the heat on medium heat.
- Add a tbsp of ghee and keep mixing..
- After 3 mins add another tbsp of ghee and mix well.
- Now it will get thick and non sticky. Add in another tbsp of ghee and keep cooking.
- At one stage the halwa will leave the sides of the pan. at that point add in cashews and mix well.
- The halwa will look non sticky, it will leave the pan, it will be thick and glossy, and the ghee will ooze from the sides of the pan.
- At this point pour this into a greased pan and set it in fridge for 1 to 2 hours.
- Once it is set, invert it to a cutting board and cut it into slices.
- Serve.

Will this halwa taste good with caramel custard powder? Have one unused at home as no one here likes it for the regular custard with fruits. Need your opinion!

Hi Aarthi,
Is the texture chewy/ rubbery like Bombay Halwa? Thanks
Reply

Hi Aarti,
the texture of my halwa was same as jelly , not stiff like Karachi halwa. Also it spoiled within 2 days.
Can you help me to understand what went wrong.
